Plane beautiful picnics
Nutritional experts have confirmed that you really are what you eat: Certain
foods not only affect how we feel, they can also influence how we look. Stuart Gillies, chef patron
at Gordon Ramsay Plane Food has responded to this by creating a very special picnic menu called
Plane Beautiful using ingredients known to contain key nutrients that give the body the best chance
of bringing out beauty from within while being airborne.
The menu is available exclusively for passengers flying out of Heathrow Terminal 5 and priced
at £14.95. All meals can be taken onboard, or simply enjoyed in one of the many seating areas in
the terminal. The three-course menu includes dishes such as English baby leeks, slow-baked
Hampshire beetroot and fresh goats curd with a grapefruit vinaigrette. Beetroot contains the
antioxidant betanin, found in the red pigment of the beetroot, which may have cancer-protective
effects. Beetroot may also support liver function and helps lower cholesterol.
Another sample dish is the Seared loin of Yellow Fin Tuna accompanied by a fennel, red onion
and mint salad with black pepper dressing. Tuna is a rich source of omega-3 which is an essential
fat that has heart-protective properties and is also good for skin, brain and immune function. This
dish also contains B-vitamin folate in addition to the all-important vitamin C, which acts as an
antioxidant.
Desserts include Tropical fruit salad with 70% bitter chocolate, lemongrass and ginger; this
antioxidant-rich dish helps protect the body from free-radical damage and supports blood
circulation. Dark chocolate is a rich source of magnesium which is an important mineral for bone
health and cardiovascular system. Magnesium also helps maintain muscle and nerve function.
Plane Beautiful picnics are available from 7:00am to 9:00pm daily and are priced at £14.95
for 3 courses.
